Negligent Security: More Shootings at Businesses Leave People Seriously Injured
Yet more members of the public have been involved in shootings at businesses premises: this week, there were two separate shootings in Northeast Portland leaving a total of 4 people wounded with 3 taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. These shootings could have been prevented had security guards been present at the businesses where these events occurred.
The first shooting was at a business, the “Venture Inn Tavern” where three people were seriously injured in the shooting at NE 139th and Sandy; a second shooting was reported minutes later at NE 60th and Killingsworth. At the Venture Inn Tavern shooting, police described the scene as “chaotic” when they arrived. One man had been shot in the chest, another man was hit in the upper leg and a woman was shot in the hip. The responding officers applied first aid until medical personnel took over. There does not appear to have been security present on the property or any measure to prevent crime on the property.
Police say people in the bar tackled the male suspect who allegedly fired the shots. They tried to hold him down until police arrived — but he was able to slip out and flee the area. One patron did wrestle away the gun and gave it to police once they arrived.
At the second scene at NE 60th and Killingsworth, there was a heavy police presence actively looking for bullet casings. Apparently one man was shot in his car.
